Tiffany timepieces are warranted by Tiffany and Company, a New York corporation (“Tiffany”), for a warranty period of twenty-four (24) months from the date of purchase under the terms and conditions of the limited warranty. The limited warranty covers only material and manufacturing defects existing at the time of purchase (“defects”). The limited warranty will come into force only if the warranty certificate has been duly completed and signed by a retailer authorized by Tiffany. The limited warranty grants specific legal rights, in addition to which there may be other legal rights which will vary from country to country and from state to state. During the warranty period you will have the right to have a covered defect repaired free of charge if you present a valid warranty certificate.

INTRODUCTION

INTERVALS BETWEEN SERVICES

As with any precision instrument, a watch needs regular servicing. The frequency of the service required depends on, among other factors, the watch model, the climate and other conditions in which it is being used and the owner’s individual care of the watch. To ensure that your watch provides excellent service for many years, we recommend that mechanical watches should be serviced at least every five (5) years.

Please contact a Tiffany & Co. retailer for maintenance information or information on battery replacement. Only these authorized retailers have the necessary tools and equipment to undertake the servicing of your timepiece, and to carry out the required checks in compliance with the Tiffany & Co. quality standards. The batteries used in our quartz watches are silver oxide-zinc button-type batteries. It is recommended that the watch battery is replaced every two (2) years.

SERVICE DESCRIPTIONS

Battery Service

The battery service involves the exchange of the battery of your Tiffany watch. Your timepiece will be undergoing water resistance testing according to the model specifications. Finally, the watch will be cleaned with soapy water.

Maintenance Service

The maintenance service includes checking the watch’s functions and appearance, ensuring that it is water resistant and runs accurately, and giving the exterior a thorough cleaning. Our specialists identify any functional defects and repair them. After a maintenance service you can be sure that the watch will show the correct time, that all its functions are working properly and that its water resistance is at the level stated.

  2. Ultrasonic cleaning of movement parts or battery change (Quartz)
  3. Correction of isolated issues
  4. Timing rate check and adjustment

Complete Service

The complete service involves the carrying out of a full detailed check of the working of your Tiffany watch. A complete service is essential when a watch has not been checked for several years or when its mechanism no longer works properly (for example, because the oils it contains have dried out or the case has received an impact). A complete service is recommended once every five (5) years.

Like any precision instrument, a watch from Tiffany requires care and attention. A complete service involves a full overhaul of the timepiece, a complex, largely manual task, lasting several hours. A specialist completely dismantles the movement, meticulously checks every part, and repairs or replaces it, as required. The individual components are then cleaned. After this, the watch is reassembled from scratch and lubricated at critical points. Finally, the movement’s accuracy is checked and, if necessary, adjusted. The case and bracelet are cleaned, and refreshed in a complex process that gives them a new sparkle. Every watch subsequently undergoes a special test program where it is required to meet a number of strict tolerances. Now you can be sure that your watch shows the correct time, that all its functions are working properly, and that its water resistance is at the level stated. After an overhaul, your watch will look like new.

Polishing Service

The case and bracelet are cleaned and refurbished to the original Tiffany & Co. specifications (i.e., polishing, satin-finishing). The polishing service is an abrasive process and therefore should not be applied often over the lifetime of the timepiece. By limiting the number of times the watch is polished, the change to the original shape of the watch will be kept to a minimum.

Bracelet Service

The bracelet’s functionality will be restored. All damaged parts will be replaced and the folding clasp will be readjusted, if required.

Restoration Service

Only specialized watchmakers are in a position to carry out restoration work. The restoration work itself involves restoring faulty parts to their original condition and replicating any missing parts. Restoration work is carried out on the case, the dial and the movement. In order to ensure quality work, we carry out full restorations only, in order to be able to offer a 12-month warranty.

Care & Maintenance

BATTERIES

Empty quartz watch batteries should be changed immediately in order to avoid leakages of the battery that can damage the movement to the point of irreparability.

BRACELETS, CASINGS & LEATHER STRAPS

Avoid impacts and shocks to the watch. Avoid extreme temperature variations. Water resistance should be checked after any severe shock.

Avoid direct contact with detergents, solvents, fragrances and cosmetics, as they may damage the leather strap, the bracelet or the casing. Diligence in this regard will prevent premature aging of the material as well as discoloration.

For leather straps, avoid contact with water and constant moisture to prevent the deformation (and certain discoloration) of the leather. To prevent fading, keep them out of prolonged direct sunlight.

DATE-SETTING MECHANISMS

Never adjust the date between nine o’clock (21:00) in the evening and three o’clock (03:00) in the morning, as this may cause damage to the date-setting mechanism.

EXTREME TEMPERATURES

Avoid exposure to sudden changes in temperature (e.g., exposure to heat followed by immersion in cold water) or to extreme temperatures (e.g., above 60° C / 140° F or below 0° C / 32° F).

MAGNETIC FIELDS

Most mechanical watches will be adversely affected by exposure to magnetic fields. What is a magnetic field? If you own a mechanical (i.e., automatic movement) watch that you do not wear regularly, wind it at least once per month. This will slow the aging process of the oils and any lubricated components.

PREVENTING SCRATCHES

When wearing your watch avoid wearing jewelry on the same wrist. Keep watches well apart from each other to prevent them from getting scratched or scraped.

During normal use, a watch is subjected to many environmental stressors, such as vibrations, impacts, dust, water, UV radiation, perspiration or temperature fluctuations. We should not omit to mention the mechanical strain placed on a movement designed to keep the time with absolute precision for every single day for years. We recommend that all watches have a regular maintenance check approximately every two years and a full service approximately every five years.

WATER RESISTANCE

In watches, water resistance cannot be constantly guaranteed. Among other factors, it may be affected by the aging of the gaskets and/or accidental shocks. Water resistance should be tested at least every two years at a Tiffany & Co. store or authorized service center. If the watch was subjected to a severe shock, we recommend having its resistance tested. Saunas, showers and baths should be absolutely avoided as hot water may damage the water-resistance seals.

Always rinse the watch in fresh water after use in salt water or a swimming pool. When immersed in water, the push pieces for the chronograph function of the watch should never be used.

Before cleaning, always ensure that the crown is depressed and/or screwed down. Clean with soapy water and rinse well. Dry with a soft, non-abrasive cloth (preferably, cotton or microfiber). After every adjustment or winding check that the crown is screwed in its normal position to help protect the watch from water damage.

WHERE CAN I ASK FOR ADVICE AND HAVE MY TIFFANY WATCH REPAIRED?

Visit the Tiffany store of your choice, making sure to bring your watch's Warranty Certificate. You may also contact Customer Service at 00800 2000 1122 or via email. Once you have left your watch with us, a Tiffany specialist will identify the specific services that need to be performed. You will be given an estimate and date of completion. Service will be undertaken once you have accepted the terms of that estimate.

HOW CAN I CHECK THAT MY WATCH IS STILL WATER RESISTANT?

A system of seals ensures the water resistance of your watch. Such seals are placed under pressure constantly as well as being subjected to normal wear and tear. Periodic inspections of your watch’s water resistance allow one to determine whether the resistance is still adequate, and, if deemed necessary, to have the seals replaced. In normal conditions, you are recommended to have the water-resistance seals replaced once every two (2) years. (For quartz watches, this is usually the same length of time for battery replacement.) Standard maintenance includes the replacement of all seals and also of the battery (for quartz watches). If the watch worn is in frequent contact with water or regular sports activity, we recommend having the seals checked once a year. If your Tiffany water-resistant watch shows condensation under the glass, we advise you to immediately contact a Tiffany store, so as to proceed with a complete service. It is important to resolve this situation expeditiously in order to prevent damage to the watch’s components.

WHAT IS A MAGNETIC FIELD?

Magnetic fields exist all around us. Their strength depends on our specific environment. If strong enough, they may disturb the functioning of one’s watch. Quartz watches will be affected for the duration of the time spent in the magnetic field, and then go back to normal. Magnetism may disturb mechanical watches and interfere with their functioning by making the hair spring inside the movement stick. Avoiding areas with strong magnetic fields is recommended, especially for those wearing watches containing mechanical movements.

WHY DO I NEED TO HAVE MY WATCH SERVICED REGULARLY?

The movement of your watch needs to be checked and serviced at regular intervals. Changes in the viscosity of the lubricant, or its drying up, may create friction and affect the precision of the mechanism causing it to run faster, slower or stop completely. If noticeably fast or slow, the timepiece may need to be serviced. We recommend that you have your watch undergo a complete service once every five (5) years by the Tiffany After-Sales Service. If your watch has not been worn for several months, it may need to be worn for several days to restore its accuracy.

DO ALL TIFFANY WATCHES HAVE A WARRANTY?

MY WATCH, WHICH IS AN OLD MODEL, IS DAMAGED. WHY DOES THE WARRANTY NOT APPLY IN THIS CASE?

Sometimes the lack of regular maintenance of a watch can result in accelerated deterioration of the case and other components. Unfortunately, this type of damage is not covered by the warranty because it cannot be construed as a manufacturing defect.

WHERE CAN I BUY A LEATHER STRAP?

A selection of our leather straps is available at our Tiffany stores.

WHY IS MY LEATHER STRAP NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY?

The leather straps of our watches are not covered by warranty. They should be replaced on a regular basis, as leather is an organic and permeable material, and therefore will not last forever in its original condition. We propose that you change your leather strap once a year.

THE BUCKLE OF MY WATCH IS DAMAGED. CAN IT BE REPLACED?

If you have a metal bracelet, the complete bracelet would have to be exchanged if the technical functionality of your bracelet is compromised. The buckle alone can only be replaced if the rest of the bracelet is still in good working condition. If you have a leather strap, the buckle can be changed.

HOW CAN I BE SURE THAT MY WATCH WILL NOT STOP WORKING AGAIN AFTER THE REPAIR?

Any repair service carried out is covered by a twelve (12) month warranty. The terms of the intervention warranty are included in your invoice. To prevent any possible malfunction, we recommend you follow the watch care tips provided and have your watch regularly serviced by Tiffany.

WHY DOES TIFFANY NOT DELIVER SPARE PARTS DIRECTLY TO ITS CUSTOMERS?

For technical and quality reasons, we do not deliver individual spare parts directly to our customers. The Tiffany world service centers are available to all customers and offer a professional service, carried out in accordance with Tiffany’s highest standards.
