Since its debut in mid-1800s, the Tiffany Blue Box® has remained an enduring expression of love’s lasting promise. Founder Charles Lewis Tiffany selected its distinctive hue in 1845 – long before brands had signature colours – for the cover of Blue Book, Tiffany’s catalogue of exquisitely handcrafted jewels. Decades later, in 1886, the House introduced its iconic Tiffany® Setting engagement ring in the first-ever Tiffany Blue Box®.
An integral piece of the House’s DNA, Tiffany Blue® was trademarked by Tiffany in 1998 and was standardised by the Pantone® Matching System to ensure that the hue, wherever it appears on Tiffany packaging, designs and advertising, is always the same. The custom-made colour that Pantone® created for Tiffany is called ‘1837 Blue’, named for the year Tiffany & Co. was founded, and a tribute to the longevity of our founder’s vision.
‘[Charles Lewis] Tiffany has one thing in stock that you cannot buy for any price; he will only give it to you. And that is one of his boxes.’
– The New York Evening Sun, 1889
Unwrap Something Extraordinary
Today, Tiffany Blue® and the iconic Blue Box continue to make hearts beat faster – especially when diamonds are involved. Embodying the joy of giving and the excitement of receiving, our signature packaging remains a highly desired emblem of the House, and a vessel coveted not only for what it holds but also for what it represents.
Though it debuted nearly two centuries ago, Tiffany’s iconic packaging evolves with the times. In 2022, all Tiffany Blue Boxes and bags were sustainably sourced and crafted with more than 65% recycled content.
